A critical vulnerability (CVE-2025-8141) was found in the Redirection for Contact Form 7 plugin (versions up to and including 3.2.4). The bug allows unauthenticated attackers to delete arbitrary files on a vulnerable WordPress installation. Because the vulnerability requires no authentication and can target files anywhere the web server process has write permission to, attackers can:
- Delete plugin or theme files to disable protection or create instability.
- Delete WordPress core files including configuration files (e.g., wp-config.php) if file permissions allow, potentially taking the site offline.

- Unexpected blank pages or white-screen-of-death.
- New or missing log files (logs deleted to erase traces).

Log entries to investigate:
- Web server access logs showing unauthenticated requests to plugin-specific paths with suspicious parameters (especially containing sequences like “.. /” or filenames).
- Requests from suspicious IP addresses or unusual user agents performing repeated accesses to the same URL.
- Application logs showing file deletion or filesystem warnings.

- Unexpected missing options, broken plugin updates, or missing plugin files.
- New administrative users or modified user roles (may indicate post-exploitation).

Why you shouldn’t try to “safe-test” a proof-of-concept on production
Testing exploit proofs-of-concept against a production site can cause real damage (deleted files, broken sites) and might create a recovery burden. Instead:
- Test on a local clone, staging environment, or a disposable VM with the same plugin version.
- Do not attempt to execute exploit code on live servers.
